Sidharth Malhotra gets trolled over his tweet promoting A Gentleman to Haryana people while the state faces Law & Order trouble

Yesterday turned out to be one of the most shocking days in recent times thanks to large-scale violence in the Northern part of India. The violence was triggered after the special CBI court of Panchkula, Haryana, declared Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Insan as a convict in the case of a rape of a female devotee in his ashram. Lakhs of Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh Insan’s followers who had converged at Panchkula resorted to vandalism, arson and even attacked mediapersons and property. Soon, the violence spread to other cities and states as well.

In the midst of this madness, a tweet post by Sidharth Malhotra got maximum brickbats. The tweet read, “To all the people of Haryana, please stay safe. Hope you can see our film soon #Agentleman #PeaceAndLove”.

A large section of netizens slammed Sidharth Malhotra since they found the tweet insensitive in the light of the violence and loss of lives, and it was seen as an attempt to shamelessly promote his film, A Gentleman.

However, a section of Twitterati defended Sidharth Malhotra. They reasoned that the tweet was posted by the actor before the verdict was announced at 2:30 pm and before the violence commenced.

Realizing that his tweet has gone viral and he is being criticized for it, Sidharth Malhotra later posted two tweets to clarify his point.
