Last year around the occasion of Independence Day Rustom had released and turned out to be a very good success. Now exactly a year later, producers KriArj Entertainment have delivered yet another box office winner (and with Akshay Kumar in the lead again) in the form of Toilet – Ek Prem Katha. With two back to back centuries under their belt, the producers are of course in a jubilant mood and are continuing to celebrate.

“Success of Toilet – Ek Prem Katha was very critical for us at KriArj,” says Prernaa Arora of KriArj, “Not only has the film has bailed out the ailing industry from its low sentiment, it has also spread a very strong message across the people of India. The film apart from being liked by the audiences has also actually addressed the issue of open defecation and that percentage has come down too. That’s what we call achievement of our hard work.”

Commercial success gained by the film is a huge achievement too for the newly former production house which has over half a dozen big films already in different stages of production.

“Yes, back to back centuries at the box office is a blessing for sure. We truly cherish that,” smiles Prernaa.

Trade is excited too since after a series of flops and disasters, the film has brought audiences back in theatres all over again. No wonder, it is Akshay Kumar again who has come to the rescue, what with Toilet – Ek Prem Katha turning out to be his fifth century in a row after Airlift, Housefull 3, Rustom and Jolly LLB 2.

“Exactly, and each of these five films has been so different,” says Girish Johar, film trade & business analyst, “To have five back to back centuries is a very rare and commendable feat that Akshay Kumar has achieved. Rare, because only a very few star actors have been able to achieve this till now in the history of Indian cinema, and commendable because all his box office centuries have come with vast range of content.”

Both Rustom and Toilet – Ek Prem Katha had challenges of their own and didn’t really have it all on the platter.

He continues, “Rustom came with a clash against a big film (Hrithik Roshans MohenjoDaro) and still proved to be a huge success. Now Toilet – Ek Prem Katha came at a time when the entire industry was at its lowest ebb and the morale was down. Sentiments were so down and then Akshay came and breathed oxygen into the lungs of the industry. He does three to four films a year which could well be a dream for more actors.”

True that!
